Chaos Front Talents and Combat Skills

The reason two identical frames feel like different games.

Last updated:

Talents and Skills

Chaos Front moved power into people. A mecha’s melee weapon now scales with the pilot’s melee stat. Parry chance uses that stat plus agility. Instakill chance scales with Assassin ranks. If you only shop chassis, you are playing half a game. This page is the talent sheet we can cite from developer logs. Pair it with recruitment and combat.

Parry package

When two melee mechs fight, the defender rolls parry from melee stat and mech agility. Talents that raise that chance:

  • Fencer
  • Kung Fu Master
  • Lone Wolf

Skills that can force a parry against any melee attack:

  • Still Water
  • Spirit

Chassis extras on some melee-focused mechs:

  • Kungfu — a chance at criticals.
  • Deflecting Blow — a chance to slap projectiles out of the air.

Staff melee frames with this package or accept that you bought a costume. See mecha.

Assassin and instakill

Some units can strike a vital point. If the target’s remaining HP is below 1,000, they may be removed immediately. Assassin talent ranks raise the chance. This is why you do not park a wounded ace next to a knife for “later.”

There is no public launch table of every assassin officer. If a card says Assassin, believe it. If it does not, do not invent the trait because the portrait looks smug.

Identity talents

The store copy promises identity talents and combat skills on commanders, staff, merchants, pirates, scientists, psychics, robots, and aliens. That list is the design intent: not everyone is a duelist. A merchant talent might be a shop. A staff talent might be a proposal. A psychic talent might unlock ARMS behavior you cannot see on a raider.

Sacrifice-style combat skills exist in official screenshots: huge damage now, destroyed at the end of the fight. That is not a beginner tool. Put it on a fight you have Quick Saved, and only if the build can survive the funeral.

How to hire for talents

  1. Open the card before the gold spend.
  2. Match melee talents to melee frames.
  3. Match Assassin to units that can actually get a target under 1,000.
  4. Keep one staff brain for missions proposals.
  5. Do not sell a weird psychic because early maps are all shells.

Lycurgus and Hongyu both use this system. The difference is which unique officers walk in, not whether parry exists. See protagonists.

What is not a talent

Ram is a ship order. Sortie is a ship order. Hit-and-run is a fighter rule. Blackhole Gun is a Consortium late weapon. Star 9 is a corps rank. Do not look for a talent named “True Ending.” The calendar is on the ending checklist.

When logs name more talents, they will land here and on updates. Until then, the in-game card beats a fan spreadsheet.

Reading a card in five seconds

Open the portrait. Note melee, the identity talent line, and any named skill. If the skill says you die at the end of the fight, that is a closer, not a patrol tool. If the talent says Assassin, keep enemies above 1,000 HP until you want them gone. If the talent is blank because you have not hired them yet, do not invent a parry. The encyclopedia is in Manage; ESC on the campaign map, as controls describes.

A corps with three Fencers and no captain still needs a ship. Talents do not Sortie themselves. Hire, then assign, then fight. That order is how builds stay honest.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers drawn from the launch build and official notes.

Do talents work on any unit?

Pilot melee feeds melee weapons. Assassin feeds instakill rolls. A fencer in an artillery piece is a wasted card. Match jobs via builds.

Can I respec talents?

No public respec system is documented on the store page. Hire the right person instead of waiting for a refund button.

Is parry useful against guns?

Parry is melee-versus-melee. Deflecting Blow is the projectile exception, and only on some chassis.

Where is the full talent list?

In the game. This page lists officially described talents from developer logs, not a datamine.
