Chaos Front System Requirements
A 2D SRPG with modest specs and a Verified Deck badge.
Chaos Front is a 2D turn-based mercenary SRPG, not a ray-traced sim. The Steam page still prints real numbers. This page copies those numbers and the accessibility flags so you can decide before the launch discount ends. Pair it with launch notes and controls.
Minimum
- 64-bit processor and OS
- OS: Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 listed on the store page, with Valve’s note that the Steam client itself only supports Windows 10 and later from 1 January 2024
- CPU: Intel i5 class
- RAM: 4 GB
- GPU: GTX 860M class
- DirectX: 9.0
- Storage: 2 GB
If your laptop is an 860M-era machine, expect the game to run and the Steam client to be the actual problem on Windows 7.
Recommended
- Same 64-bit requirement
- CPU: Intel i5 class
- RAM: 8 GB
- GPU: GTX 1060 class
- DirectX: 9.0
- Storage: 4 GB
Recommended is comfort for combat animations and bigger late maps, not a 4K flex. You can turn allied animations off; developer logs added that option for a reason.
Steam Deck and controllers
Steam Deck Compatibility is Verified. Full controller support is listed, including Xbox controllers. Keyboard-only, mouse-only, and touch-only options exist. Save anytime. Playable at your own pace. No timed input. Camera comfort and custom volume controls sit in the accessibility set.
If Deck Verified still feels cramped, bind inspect to a comfortable cancel button and keep End Turn on a face button you will not mash. The controls guide is the habit sheet.
What the spec does not tell you
It does not tell you whether you will like ram physics. It does not tell you whether Hongyu’s text volume is comfortable. It does not replace the star-9 clock. Buy if the hardware matches. Learn Sortie in getting started. Keep the ending checklist for the calendar.
No macOS or Linux requirements are printed. The platforms object on the store API is Windows-only. Proton on Deck is Valve’s problem and currently marked Verified; desktop Linux is not a promise we will invent.
Storage and cloud
Two to four gigabytes is small. Steam Cloud is listed. Family Sharing is listed. This is still a single-player campaign; sharing a library does not create a second captain.
If a future patch bloats the install, updates will note it. Until then, these are the launch numbers from app 2770330.
Practical buy advice
If you already run other 2D Steam tactics games on a 1060-class desktop, you will run Chaos Front. If you are on a 4 GB laptop that still boots Windows 11, try the demo first if it remains available, then buy. If you are on a phone, this is not your storefront. If you are on a Deck, Verified means Valve already did the embarrassing part; you still have to learn Sortie.
Combat animations are the heaviest visual luxury. Turn allied animations off when grinding repeats, on when you paid for Super Robot Wars fireworks. That toggle is a performance tool as much as a taste tool. Disk space is not the boss. Attention is. Pair this page with the ending checklist so a cheap install does not become an expensive bad ending.
DirectX 9 is the listed API. Do not hunt for a ray-tracing preset. There is not one. Spend the minutes you saved on getting started.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers drawn from the launch build and official notes.
Can I run Chaos Front on Windows 7?
The game lists Windows 7 in minimum specs, but the Steam client itself dropped Windows 7 support in 2024. Plan on Windows 10 or 11 for a real install.
Is Steam Deck actually Verified?
Yes, on the store page we cited at launch. Input habits still follow controls.
Do I need a 1060?
Recommended is 1060-class. Minimum is 860M-class. It is a 2D SRPG; RAM and an updated OS matter more than fashion GPUs.
Is there a Mac version?
Not in the Steam platform flags. Windows is the listed SKU.
