Chaos Front Mecha
The Super Robot Wars half of your mercenary bill.
Mecha are why most captains buy Chaos Front. They occupy the middle of the grid, eat ram poorly if stacked, and shine when a pilot’s melee stat and talents actually match the frame. This page is a role sheet for launch week. It sits under the units hub and next to ships.
Starter shapes from the demo
Public demo footage and the Lycurgus opening use a small, readable trio:
- Champion — the poster frame, the one you overprotect.
- Raider — the angle-seeker, happier on a flank than in a clown-car stack.
- Sentry — the boring adult in the room, often the one still alive when you mis-ram.
Those names are the teaching set, not the entire seventy-unit museum. Full-game screenshots also show heavy mecha (重装机甲) and destroyer-class machines (破坏者) with HP in the 3,000s. Use in-game encyclopedia names when they disagree with a YouTube subtitle.
Melee frames are a system
Pilot melee feeds melee weapon damage. Parry appears when two melee mechs clash: defender melee plus mech agility, plus talents such as Fencer, Kung Fu Master, and Lone Wolf. Skills like Still Water or Spirit can auto-parry a melee swing. Kungfu and Deflecting Blow live on some melee-focused chassis for crits or projectile slaps.
If you love the gold titan-looking sprite on the battle screenshots, staff it like a duelist, not like a truck. Put the right person in the cockpit via recruitment and talents.
Ranged and support mecha
Not every frame wants a saber. Support attack chips appear on unit cards. Range windows such as 3–5 exist. A mecha that can shell or support is how you stop sending the champion into every hex. Artillery is a separate class on the ships page, but some mecha still behave like walking guns.
Seize and steal are easier with a frame you can place adjacent without dying. Light mecha do that job. Heavy mecha hold a hex after the light ones opened it. Titans end arguments if you can afford the EN and the pilot.
Modifications
You get appearance-and-ability modifications, not a full weapon sandbox. That means a raider variant is still a raider. Do not wait for a custom backpack editor. Spend gold on the variant that matches a talent you already hired.
Practical mecha corps rules
- One melee ace with parry talents.
- One light frame for seize and vision.
- One heavy or destroyer that can eat a hit.
- No more than one unstaffed trophy in the hangar.
- Never stack the entire mecha line on the hex your battleship is about to ram through.
Combat details for ram and instakill are on combat. Example corps lists are on builds.
What we will not fake
We will not publish an S-tier of “use this frame or you are bad.” We will not assign made-up DPS to Xiahou Dun’s ride because a portrait showed up in a screenshot. We will update this page when patches or logs name new frames, including Consortium late toys that are not the Blackhole Gun.
If you only came here from a “Chaos Front tier list” search, take the role ladder and go fight. The grid is the real list.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers drawn from the launch build and official notes.
Which mecha should I buy first?
A staffed light or champion-style frame you can actually sortie, plus a survivor. Titans wait. See builds.
Do mecha beat ships?
They do different jobs. Ships ram and carry. Mecha occupy and duel. Mixed corps win; see the units hub.
Why did my melee unit do nothing?
Wrong pilot stats, empty EN, or you attacked a gunline that never entered melee. Check talents and morale.
Are Three Kingdoms officers locked to specific mecha?
Not in any official table we can cite. Open the in-game card. The character hub tracks people, not a leaked lock chart.
