Faction Strategy in Chaos Front
Four unique rosters. One mercenary corps. Pick your paymaster carefully.
The December 2025 development log introduced Chaos Front’s faction strategy in detail. Four major factions are engaged in grand strategic actions across the Centersea War. Each fields entirely unique units and missions. Your relationship with each determines what you can buy, who will fight beside you, and which ending flags you can reach. This page is the operational layer for that system. Pair it with missions and factions.

The Faction Data Menu
Open Manage on the campaign map, then look for Faction Data. You will see faction leaders, intelligence data for all four factions, and how friendly your mercenary corps is with each one. That relationship number is not cosmetic.
The December log makes this explicit: your relationship level with a faction determines what they will do for you. Low relationship means they ignore your proposals. High relationship means they send troops, sell exclusive ARMS, and appear as allies in difficult battles.
The Four Factions
Interstellar Consortium — The exploitation machine built by the three great powers after they could not finish each other: Republic of Legions, Gan Dynasty, and Shining Federation. They field consistent, professional units and pay in credits and political influence.
Black Flag — A Gan Dynasty fleet under Admiral Lee that defected and aligned with revolutionaries. They field modified standard units with unconventional tactics. Fighting for Black Flag means fighting the Consortium establishment.
Revolutionary Planets — Planets like Massilia that rose up against Consortium exploitation. They field improvised but determined forces. Revolutionary pay often comes with political strings attached.
Principality of Shazhou — A smaller power that appears in Hongyu’s proposal screens. They have their own agenda and unique units unavailable elsewhere.
How Relationship Builds
The December log describes a clear loop: fight battles for a faction, complete their missions, and respond to ally proposals in their favor. Each action that benefits a faction raises your relationship. Each action against them lowers it.
Relationship tiers appear to follow a familiar pattern:
- Neutral — They tolerate you. Basic contracts available.
- Friendly — They share some intelligence. Better contracts and occasional troop assistance.
- Allied — They answer your strategic proposals. You can ask them to declare war or hold offensive.
- Trusted — Faction Logistics opens. Exclusive ships and ARMS become available for purchase.
The jump from Allied to Trusted is the one that matters for your build. That is where the unique toys appear.
Faction Logistics and Exclusive ARMS
At Trusted status, each faction’s Logistics desk sells items you cannot find anywhere else. The December log calls these out explicitly: exclusive ships and ARMS that define late-game builds.
The Blackhole Gun is a well-documented Consortium late weapon from the June 2026 log: persistent miniature black holes dealing 500 HP per turn to anything in range, delivered by ram. You will not see it until the story is nearly done, and you may face it as an enemy long before you can buy it.
Do not expect every faction to offer the same toy categories. Check the in-game Logistics catalog when you hit Trusted rather than assuming every desk has a titan.
Ally Proposals in Practice
When you reach Allied status, proposal screens appear on the campaign map. The December log and official screenshots show a Revolutionary Army proposal to have the Principality of Shazhou send troops. The screen shows:
- Planet stats: economy, industry, defense, stability
- A date chip such as 30/11/C.E.27
- Strategic options: declare war, hold offensive, pick a target
Right-click backs out without choosing. Quick Save before every proposal screen because a bad choice can strand a planet you need for a story flag.
The proposal costs political points. If you spend them all on aggressive moves, you may not have points left when a defensive proposal matters more.
Which Faction to Choose
There is no objectively best faction on launch week. Each offers:
- Unique units unavailable elsewhere
- Exclusive ARMS at Trusted
- Different story mission access
- Distinct operational flavor
Hongyu’s campaign leans Gan-court politics and Shazhou proposals. Lycurgus arrives as a celebrity gun but still participates in faction wars. Both protagonists can reach true endings regardless of which faction you build relationship with.
The mistake the December log warns against is trying to please everyone. If you split relationship across three desks in Act 1, none of them will be Trusted when you need their ARMS in Act 3.
A Faction Strategy Sequence
- Finish the prologue and one Mission Center contract. Getting started.
- Read faction descriptions in the Faction Data Menu.
- Pick the faction whose unique units match a gap in your current build.
- Fight two or three faction battles for that faction before exploring others.
- Watch for ally proposals from your chosen faction; answer ones that benefit you.
- Push to Trusted before you start shopping for late-game toys.
- Buy the exclusive ship or ARMS that fills a hole, not a fifth trophy hull.
Star 9 still comes from completing unique missions. Faction grinding is not a substitute for the calendar on the ending checklist.
Late-Game Faction Balance
By Act 3, the Centersea front is deadlocked. Black Flag has aligned with revolutionaries against Consortium expansion. Your corps exists in that deadlock as legal filler.
If you arrive at this deadlock with Trusted status at one faction, you have exclusive toys and allied troop support for the hardest maps. If you arrive with Trusted status at three factions, you have confusion and no real exclusive access.
Pick one. Fight for it. Shop at its desk when Trusted arrives.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers drawn from the launch build and official notes.
Can I be Trusted with multiple factions?
In practice, yes, but it dilutes your exclusive access. Each faction's Logistics desk has unique items. Splitting relationship means none of them reach Trusted early enough for Act 3.
What does the Blackhole Gun do?
Persistent miniature black holes dealing 500 HP per turn to anything in range. Ram delivery. Late Consortium weapon from the June 2026 log. You face it as an enemy before you can buy it.
Are ally proposals mandatory?
No, but they are how you build relationship efficiently. Declaring war through a proposal costs political points. Saving those points for defensive moments is valid.
Does faction choice affect endings?
Not directly in the sense of locked endings. But faction relationship gates exclusive ARMS that affect late-game combat viability. See endings.
